Short bio
I got a PhD in Ecological Science from the “La Sapienza” University of Rome in 2007, then I have worked at the National Institute of Health in Rome taking part in numerous national and european research projects concerning the welfare of lab, farm and pet animals. Furthermore, I have been interested in legislative and ethical aspects of animal experimentation, both as director and organizer of educational and training courses. Currently I have a role as specialist in animal welfare and management of non-human primate facility at CNR, Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies, Rome.
Research interests
My field of interest is animal behavior and well-being of captive animals. I had the chance to work with different species such as monkeys, pigs, fish and parrots. My work approach is based on the application of Refinement concept (one of the 3Rs) for housing and care of captive animals by different methodologies such as environmental enrichment plans, provision of environmental control and choice opportunities, promotion of handling and positive training programs, evaluation of life-experience.
