Short bio
I am currently a research scientist at the Fondazione Ethoikos, Radicondoli (Si) and I am in charge as responsible for the research activities in the field of ethology and behavioural ecology of primates at the Parco Faunistico di Piano dell'Abatino, Poggio San Lorenzo (Ri). I got a degree in Natural Sciences at the University of Rome "La Sapienza", studying the meaning and function of facial displays in capuchin monkeys. Then, I was a visiting student at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, Département Ecologie, Physiologie et Ethologie of Strasbourg (France), where I continued to study the visual communication in capuchins. After, I got a PhD in Ethology and Animal Ecology at the University of Florence "La Specola", in collaboration with the Département Ecologie, Physiologie et Ethologie of Strasbourg, working on polyadic interactions in Tonkean macaques. I authored a dozen publications in scientific peer-reviewed journals and participated in international congresses.
Research interests
I am mainly interested in non-human primate social behaviour. My previous research focused on the meaning and function of facial displays in capuchin monkeys (Cebus apella, C. capucinus). Then, I studied the polyadic dimension of social relations in Tonkean macaques (Macaca tonkeana). My current researches investigate several aspects of the social organization of Tonkean macaques, focusing particularly on how monkeys manage their social relationships.
